Introduction to Mathematical Physics
academic year 2024/25
Academic Coordinator: Sebastiano Sonego
Period: annual
Duration: 28 hours
Program: This course provides an overview of physics and the most common mathematical tools used in the formulation of physical theories. The curriculum begins with Newtonian mechanics, progresses to statistical mechanics and thermodynamics, and introduces the concept of fields along with the basic ideas of relativistic dynamics and quantum mechanics. The course concludes by demonstrating how these theories allow us to estimate the orders of magnitude of various structures in nature, from atoms to stars.
