Historiography and Memory: Myths, Rites, and Oracles of Foundation

Program:
The course will focus on foundational acts, including their associated myths and rituals, using an interdisciplinary approach that spans history, archaeology, and Greek and Latin literature. The course is divided into three modules:

  1. Historiographical Module

    • Led by Prof. Proietti from UniTN.
  2. Archaeological and Numismatic Module

    • Taught by Profs. Rubinich, Cadario, and Passera.
  3. Literary Module

    • Latin Literature:
      • Profs. Delvigo, Fucecchi, and Battistella will address topics such as the foundation of Rome and foundational stories in Ennius, Cato, Vergil, and Ovid.
    • Greek Literature:
      • Prof. Fabbro will explore Pindar and the tragic stage.
